A PERFORMANCE OF VALOUR AT ALTERNATIVE FILM/VIDEO 2023
My video A Performance of Valour will be screening at Alternative Film/Video on Dec 6 at the Academic Film Center, Students City Cultural Center in Belgrade. Earlier this year it screened at the London Short Film Festival, so I’m glad the video has a second outing at the end of the year.
This year’s edition is curated by critic and film curator/programmer Neil Young.
“This year’s competition includes 36 films from 26 different countries, shown in three competition programmes across three evenings, each composed of two sections. Together they offer a representative panorama of current adventurous filmmaking from all over the world.” Read the rest here.

originally conceived as a meeting point for film artists across Yugoslavia
video was incorporated into the festival by 1985
practically every significant film artist and video artist from the former Yugoslavia participated in the festival, including Zelimir Zilnik, Tomislav Gotovac, Karpo Godina and many others
by the early 2000s the festival had an international character with a competition program
many iconic film artists and video artists from all over the world have participated in the festival, including Chto Delat, Hito Steyerl, Peter Tscherkassky, Rose Lowder, and so many more
the festival is known for its intimate atmosphere, the nonheirarchical format of its roundtable discussions, its rigorous noncommercial stance, its fierce dedication to alternatives for every existing condition in film art and video art, and extended lunches in Jakarta (IYKYK!)
Sadly I won’t be able to attend, but happy and thankful to be selected, and to be part of this festival.
