Exhibition: Spaces That Remain

Earlier this month, I attended a tour of Spaces That Remain, an outdoor exhibition featuring photos Jalal Abuthina and curated by Rashed Almulla, at the Mosque of Reflection in City Walk

The 10 photos in the exhibition are part of Jalal’s documentation of the changes in the area surrounding the mosque since 2004, a visual record of Dubai between 2007-2014 and the changes that happened to the two neighborhoods close by the mosque, Shaabiyah Shorta and Defaa’. 

Rashed shared the history of the mosque, who has a family connection to it and talked about the neighbourhood and its gentrification.
