Film Screenings - Abu Dhabi Film Festival at The Space in May
The third edition of Abu Dhabi Film Festival at The Space for the month of May will have a Cannes Film Festival feel to it with the theme of the "Palme d'Or".
The 67th annual Cannes Film Festival will run from May 14 to May 25 bringing audiences discoveries from around the world. Join us this month to explore some of the past winners and nominees of Cannes' most prestigious prize, the Palm d'Or (The Golden Palm) along with a special screening featuring actress Grace Kelly and ravishing French Riviera locations in color.
Here's the line up for May. Each film will be preceded with a short film from the UAE. All screenings are free, but you must RSVP in advance. Screening starts at 7pm at The Space in Abu Dhabi.

Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives is a unique tale of a man embracing life's greatest mystery.
Choosing to spend his final days surrounded by his loved ones in the countryside, Boonmee is visited by his dead wife (a ghost) and his lost son (a strange, hairy beast with red glowing eyes) who come to guide him to his final resting place, a cave where his first soul began.
With a wry sense of humor and a humanist spirit the film is a magical tale of reincarnation, karma and nature.

The Time That Remains by Elia Suleiman

A beautiful, unique, and deeply personal depiction of Palestine since 1948 from the internationally acclaimed director Elia Suleiman. "The Time That Remains is a semi-autobiographical film, in four episodes, about a family, my family, from 1948 until recent times.
The film is inspired by my father’s private diaries, starting from when he was a resistance fighter in 1948, and by my mother’s letters to family members who were forced to leave the country." Suleiman portrays the daily life of those Palestinians who remained and were labelled "Israeli-Arabs", living as a minority in their own homeland.

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg by Jacques Demy

Described as ‘a film in song’, this visually intoxicating romantic musical takes place in the French seaside town of Cherbourg. Guy (Nino Castelnuovo), a 20-year-old French auto mechanic, has fallen in love with 17-year old Geneviève (Catherine Deneuve), an employee in her widowed mother’s chic but financially embattled umbrella shop.
On the evening before Guy is to leave for a two-year tour of combat in Algeria, the pair share a passionate night. Geneviève becomes pregnant and then must choose between waiting for Guy’s return or accepting an attractive offer of marriage from a wealthy diamond merchant (Marc Michel).
