Mahmovies! at thejamjar - RIP: A Remix Manifesto and The Lost Fingers

The second season of Mahmovies! Music of the Eyes series opens with RIP: A Remix Manifesto on 25th January at thejamjar.

A documentary that delves into remix culture and copyright in the information age - with blurred lines between users and producers today, watch this documentary to hear the arguments whether it's a case of culture building upon culture, copyright infringement or a compromise of creative integrity.

The screening will be followed with a live performance by The Lost Fingers, a gypsy jazz trio from Quebec, Canada known for their unique interpretations of 1980s classics from “Billie Jean” to “Pump Up the Jam”. The band is made up of Alex Morissette (backing vocals, double bass), Christian Roberge (lead vocals, guitar), and Byron "Maiden" Mikaloff (backing vocals, guitar). They shot to fame after their release of “Lost in the 80s”, a compilation of swing covers of 1980s classics and continue to release a host of innovative covers of well known songs, and has toured extensively to sold out concerts.

Check out this medley they performed for a radio station a few years ago. It includes Samantha Fox's Touch Me", Bon Jovi's You Give Love A Bad Name and Technotronic's Pump Up The Jam. (Not sure how long I can last listening to 'quirky' versions of songs from the 1980s, but I think it will be a good laugh. Wonder if I can make a request to hear them play Billy Ray Cyrus' Achy Breaky Heart.)

Mahmovies! is a free event and seating will be on a first come first serve basis, starting at 7.30pm on 25th January at thejamjar.
