Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp Dubai 2013

After running two Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camps in Beirut in 2011 and 2012, the 2013 will be based in Dubai and will host over 30 musicians from the region including Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Syria, UAE, India and Pakistan. 

The three day event will be held from 26th-28th September in Al Fahidi Historic Neighborhood and will feature Red Bull Music Academy lecturers Kenny Dope and Gerd Janson, Detroit legend Derrick May, the acclaimed Gareth Jonesand hip-hop maestro Just Blaze, plus studio workshops and recording sessions.



The events in Al Fahidi Historic Neighborhood will not be open to the public, but over the three nights, Red Bull Music Academy will host club nights across the city open to the public where you will get a chance to see the renowned lecturers doing what they do best. They will also be supported by Dubai based DJs. If you're into music, make sure you attend at least one or all of the following (click on each event to see more details).

Red Bull Music Academy Jam Session, The Music Room in Majestic Hotel, Dubai 
This jam session will bring together all the live musicians from Bass Camp including artists from eight countries, collaborating and covering a wide music spectrum from funk to rock to electronic music and everything in between.   
 

In addition to all of the above, Tashkeel (a studio and exhibition space supporting contemporary art and design in the UAE) will be collaborating with Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp Dubai by commissioning two artists to develop installations in the Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp. 

This is where I come in. I'm happy to report I am one of the artists selected for this, along with Ruben Sanchez. 

Ruben Sanchez will be developing a site-specific installation throughout House 11, where the Red BullMusicAcademy Bass Camp will be taking place.

(As mentioned earlier, the Bass Camp in Al Fahidi Historic Neighborhood won't be open to the public between 26th-28th September, but between 4th-5th October, my Cassette Tape project will be open to the public, where you can join me on a journey through my personal history of the cassette tape and its association to Dubai. Expect a detailed blogpost about this soon.)

Here are two short films chronicling Red Bull Music Academy's 2011 and 2012 Bass Camp in Beirut. Looks like it was a lot of fun with some interesting collaborations. I can't wait to see the results coming out of the Dubai Bass Camp.
