RIP Adam Yauch

Hearing about Adam Yauch's death yesterday left me with a strange and sad feeling. It's quite odd to hear news about celebrities from your generation passing away and it's always sad to hear when someone young dies of an incurable disease.

I've never been a massive Beastie Boys fan, and I really didn't follow all their news, but I do have a favourite song from my high school days, You Gotta Fight For Your Right (To Party). I guess it was every teenager's anthem.

Whilst reading all the Adam Yauch obituaries and articles, I found out something I didn't know about him. I didn't realise he directed most of the music videos for Beatie Boys and I had no idea he was the founder of Oscilloscope Laboratories, a film production and distribution company that supports independent films. Their titles include the critically acclaimed We Need to Talk About Kevin, Exit Through a Gift Shop to name a few.

I leave you with two videos to remember Adam Yauch - (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) video and a song from a very young Beastie Boys (they've come a long way since then) and the short film Fight For Your Right (Revisited), a short film written, produced and directed by Adam Yauch last year.

The film continues from the (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) video starring Elijah Wood, Seth Rogen, Danny McBride and cameo appearances from some very big Hollywood names. It's a satire about their bad boy image from their early days and is really quite funny (to the ones that get offended easily, it contains some strong language and a bit of 'toilet hunour' around the 20th minute).

RIP Adam Yauch.
